People…people…listen up. You need to learn your damn homophones.
That is all.

When the Woods thing broke and people at my work went crazy getting the story up on the site and trying to find out more details, I was sitting there saying to myself “This is news?” I didn’t care and don’t care why Eldrick crashed his car. I didn’t and don’t care if he couldn’t keep his penis in his pants. I didn’t and don’t get why that story is such big news.
And why I had to go hunting to find out what Obama said. I heard a bit about it on CBC Radio on the way in to work the next day, but have struggled to find any details.
Is that how the world is working now? “I know that we fucked up royally, but ignore that. Look over there! It’s a dancing pig!” And all we see for the next two weeks is dancing pig stories, dancing pig biographies, dancing pig background checks, dancing pig ex-girlfriend interviews, dancing pig incriminating photos, dancing pig ad nausem.
Get your heads out of your asses. Really. I’m happy that I decided not to populate the planet with any offspring. I do not envy what world society has become and is looking like it’s turning into.
One show down and one more to go. And hopefully a couple of others.
Seeing Matt again was great. He played a bunch of songs, talked in between a few songs, played some more, told an audience member to “fuck right off” and leave (more on this later), and played some more.
The tour is in support of Vancouver so he played a bunch of tunes from there. He also played a couple of older monsters. Overall, very enjoyable.
A couple of things that I didn’t like – the drunk people in the crowd that were being assholes – especially the two fuckers right in front of me that left halfway through the show – and the constant stream of people going in an out – I can only assume that it was to the washroom.
If you’re at a concert to see and hear a musician play, I don’t get why you’d want to get drunk. When I’m drunk I don’t feel good, I can’t concentrate, I tend to forget things, and I have to pee a lot. Why would I want any of those things to happen when I’m watching Matthew Good?
And as for the drunk people that shout stupid things from the audience when Matt’s talking – do you know anything about him at all? He’s got definite political and social opinions and talks about them regularily. If you’re a Matt Good fan you should know that. If you’re not a fan, what the fuck are you doing at the concert? So when Matt starts to talk and goes on for 10 or 15 minutes, it’s pretty much expected. It’s part of what seeing a live concert is all about. It’s part of why I was there. Shouting at him to “shut the fuck up” is not going to get the response that the shouter wants. It’s going to get a response like the one that Matt gave that night. He singled the guy out, and basically told him that if he didn’t like the show he should “get up, go out the door, go to the ticket window, get your money back, and fuck right off.” *At least that’s how I remember it* – Matt’s version is here. As Matt said later in the show, the guy was entitled to voice his opinion just like Matt was entitled to his rebuttal.
So…the show was great. Matt was great. The music was great. The crowd sucked. Hopefully the people at Massey Hall are better.
Nov 30th I’m seeing Matthew Good in Kitchener. Dec 19th I’m seeing him again – in Toronto this time.
I’m trying to get tickets to a couple of other shows – see below and here.
I told Meg about the other two shows and she thinks that I’m crazy. The 2 shows was crazy. Seeing 4 shows in less than a month is absolutely nut-bar-bat-shit-crazy.
But I haven’t seen MG live since a concert I went to at Canada’s Wonderland. Treble Charger, Sloan, and the Matthew Good Band. 2000 or 2001 I think.
And I’ve really liked the last two discs. So this year is the year that I’m going to see him again. Sweet for me. Crazy for Meg.
And…I’d have his babies if he asked me right.
With that, maybe some MG swag.
And if anyone has a copy of Lo-fi B-sides they want to part with, I’m in the market.
And if you’re reading this, you already know that I’m a MG fan. Two concerts on the docket for Nov and Dec – Kitchener and Toronto.
On the weekend, Meg and I went to the movies. We wanted to see the new Potter movie and Julie and Julia. We couldn’t decide which one to see and we don’t have a lot of free weekends in September and October so we decided to see both.
Potter was ok. Pretty much what I expected. The books are always better with these movies.
Julie and Julia was fantastic. Very funny. Meryl Streep plays a good Julia Child. And add in that the movie was about cooking and you’ve got yourself a must-see-movie-of-the-summer.
I’ll have to get me a copy of the cookbook sometime – maybe save it for the Christmas list.
It’s a hand-built sculpture piece. It wasn’t designed to look like anything. But I think that it’s pretty cool.
And the fun continues in September – I’m signed up for another 201 class. Stay tuned for some beginner cane work.
When Meg and I get married (ya right!) this is how the wedding party is going to do it.
That, or walkers and canes and wheelchairs (it might take me some time to convince her.)
Last week’s effort was murinne. Enjoy.
And this is Tamara working on her piece – it turned into a bowl.
I’m not very good at it. Give it a try.
My score was 85.
This is pretty cool. But I’ve got to think that they’re just putting it together on the fly from a database of photos. It’s still cool though.
